Is Toyosu Market Open on Sunday? What's Closed, What's Open Next Door
No: Toyosu Market is closed to visitors on Sundays, restaurants included, with one year-end exception on December 27, 2026. What stays open next door, Sunday long weekends, Tsukiji on a Sunday and a half-day plan.

No. Toyosu Market is closed to visitors every Sunday, and on a closed day you cannot get into any part of it: no tuna auction, no visitor walkway, no Sushi Dai and no Uogashi Yokocho shops. The one exception in the 2026 to 2027 season is Sunday, December 27, 2026, a special trading day before New Year. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s visitor page says that on “日曜日、祝日、その他市場がお休みの日” (Sundays, holidays and other days the market is closed) you cannot enter the market, “飲食店舗・物販店舗を含め” (restaurants and shops included).
What a Sunday in Toyosu looks like:
- Closed: the auction, the walkway, the PR Corner, the lottery deck and every restaurant and shop inside the market.
- Open next door: the market’s rooftop garden (5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.), the Senkyaku Banrai food street from 10:00 a.m., its free foot bath, the Manyo Club onsen and teamLab Planets.
- Our advice: if you want the auction and a market sushi breakfast, move your visit to a Saturday or a Monday. If Sunday is your only free day, eat breakfast at Tsukiji and spend the afternoon at Senkyaku Banrai and teamLab.
No market tour runs on a Sunday, because there is nothing to watch. The Tokyo: Toyosu Tuna Auction & Tsukiji Market Gourmet Adventure (4.9/5 from 486 reviews, from $114) runs on trading days only, so its calendar below is a quick way to see which mornings around your Sunday the market is open.
What is closed on a Sunday, and the one exception
Everything inside the market fence follows the trading calendar, and Sundays are closed days. That covers the tuna auction and the second-floor walkway in the seafood wholesale building, the close-up lottery deck, the PR Corner, and the restaurants in Blocks 5, 6 and 7: Sushi Dai, Daiwa Sushi, Bentomi and the rest. Sushi Dai’s own profile gives its hours as “開市日のAM6:00〜PM2:00”, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on market days, so a Sunday is a day off for it too. The Uogashi Yokocho shop arcade on the fourth floor of the seafood building is closed as well.
Sunday, December 27, 2026 is the market’s only Sunday trading day of the year, set in the official 2026 calendar to handle the year-end rush. The visitor rule bars entry on closed days, and December 27 is a trading day, so the visitor walkway is expected to open. No official page says so in writing, so confirm in late December. The same applies to Sunday, December 26, 2027, which the 2027 calendar opens for seafood only. Our Christmas and New Year guide has the day-by-day grid for the holidays.
Sunday plus a Monday holiday closes the market for two days. Three long weekends this season shut Toyosu on both days:
| Weekend | Closed | Next trading day |
|---|---|---|
| November 22 and 23, 2026 | Sunday, then Labor Thanksgiving Day | Tuesday, November 24 |
| January 10 and 11, 2027 | Sunday, then Coming of Age Day | Tuesday, January 12 |
| March 21 and 22, 2027 | Sunday, then the substitute holiday for the Vernal Equinox | Tuesday, March 23 |
On those weekends the nearest market morning is Saturday or Tuesday. Many Wednesdays are closed too, so check the day after as well; our 2026 closure calendar lists every closed day for 2026 and early 2027.
If your trip has a closed Sunday in it, Tokyo still has plenty of food and bay views nearby. You can eat at Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai, browse the Tsukiji Outer Market, walk through teamLab Planets or cross to Odaiba for the Rainbow Bridge. Guided Tokyo food tours and other experiences are below; check each date, because tours that visit Toyosu Market skip Sundays:
What is open next door on a Sunday
| Place | Sunday | Hours | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Market rooftop garden (Block 6) | Open | 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., closed days included | Free |
| Senkyaku Banrai restaurants | Open | 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. | Pay as you eat |
| Senkyaku Banrai Mekiki Yokocho and shops | Open | 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. | Pay as you eat |
| Senkyaku Banrai food court | Open | 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. | Pay as you eat |
| 8th-floor foot bath garden | Open | 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. | Free |
| Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club onsen | Open | 24 hours | ¥3,850 plus ¥150 bathing tax, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. |
| teamLab Planets | Open | Usually to 10:00 p.m., last entry an hour before | Timed tickets online |
The rooftop garden is the one part of the market you can use on a Sunday. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government keeps it open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. even on closed days, and you get a free view over the bay towards the Rainbow Bridge. You go up from the Block 6 pedestrian deck by lift or stairs. Eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed.
Senkyaku Banrai is the Edo-style food street and onsen complex beside the market, and its official FAQ says “休業日はありません。豊洲市場の休市日にも営業しております”: it has no closing days and stays open when the market is shut. You can eat seafood bowls, tuna, sushi and grilled street snacks, and in winter the free foot bath on the eighth floor is the best warm seat in Toyosu, with a view of the bay. The tenth-floor view foot bath is for Manyo Club guests only. Go before 11:00 a.m. or after 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday, when the food street is less crowded. Our Senkyaku Banrai guide covers the shops, the onsen and the prices.
Senkyaku Banrai is not the market. Its food street is billed as “Toyosu Jogai Edomae Ichiba”, the Toyosu outer market, and Google Maps shows it as open on a Sunday. It sounds like a Toyosu version of Tsukiji’s outer market, and visitors who see the “open” tag often assume the wholesale market is open as well. It is a separate commercial complex, and it has no auction and no wholesale floor. The restaurants do not open until 10:00 a.m., so you cannot get a dawn market breakfast there.
teamLab Planets is one Yurikamome stop away at Shin-Toyosu and opens on Sundays, usually until 10:00 p.m. Tickets are timed, sold online and priced by date, and weekend slots go first, so book yours before you fix the rest of the day. Our teamLab Planets and Toyosu itinerary has timed plans for open and closed days.
Tsukiji Outer Market on a Sunday
Tsukiji is the best Sunday option if you want to eat seafood in a market street, but it is a thinner Sunday than a weekday. Its official site says many shops close on Sundays and some Wednesdays, and the market’s official Q&A puts it at about a third of shops open, mostly restaurants, “日曜祝日問わず多くの観光客の方で賑わっています” (busy with tourists on Sundays and holidays alike). The Plat Tsukiji information center opens from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, holidays and market closed days.
Go in the morning. The shops that do open are busiest from late morning, and some close early once they sell out; one Tripadvisor regular calls Sunday afternoon “probably the worst time of the week” at Tsukiji. Tsukiji Uogashi, the wholesalers’ retail floor, follows the Toyosu calendar, so it is closed. Our Tsukiji Outer Market guide lists what to eat there.
We found no Tokyo wholesale fish auction that visitors can watch on a Sunday. Toyosu, Ota and Adachi share the same central wholesale market calendar.
A Sunday half day: Tsukiji, Senkyaku Banrai and the bay
This plan skips the dawn alarm and fits the Sunday opening times. It works best from November to February, when sunset falls at about 4:30 p.m. and the foot bath is at its most welcome.
- 8:30 a.m.: breakfast at Tsukiji Outer Market, while the shops that open on Sundays are fresh and the lanes are calmer.
- 10:30 a.m.: take a taxi to Toyosu, about 10 minutes, or the subway and the Yurikamome to Shijo-mae.
- 11:00 a.m.: an early lunch at Senkyaku Banrai, before the midday queues.
- 12:30 p.m.: the free foot bath on the eighth floor, or a full soak at Manyo Club if you have the time.
- 2:00 p.m.: your timed slot at teamLab Planets, one stop away at Shin-Toyosu, about 90 minutes inside.
- 4:00 p.m.: the market rooftop garden for the sunset over the bay, then back to Senkyaku Banrai for dinner if you are still hungry.
On a closed Sunday, there is no reason to arrive in Toyosu before 10:00 a.m. Our guide to getting to Toyosu Market covers the Yurikamome and taxis. There is no visitor parking.
Moving your visit to a trading day
If the auction and a market sushi counter are why you are going, swap Sunday for Saturday or Monday. Saturday is open with the auction and every restaurant, but it is the busiest day for the sushi queues, and the PR Corner closes at 11:30 a.m. instead of 2:30 p.m. Monday is quieter, except when it is a national holiday, as on November 23, January 11 and March 22. The visitor walkway opens at 5:00 a.m. on every trading day.
A guided morning also takes the calendar off your hands, because the operators only sell dates when the market trades. The $114 Toyosu–Tsukiji tour pairs the auction with a Tsukiji tasting walk for a small group. The Private Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Adventure with Tuna Auction (4.8/5 from 292 reviews, from $165 per person for two) costs more and suits families or anyone who wants the pace set by their own group. Neither runs on a Sunday, and neither does any other auction tour we list. Our comparison of Tokyo fish market tours covers every format.

Before you go
Check your exact Sunday against the official calendar at shijou.metro.tokyo.lg.jp, because the market can add one-off restrictions at short notice, as it did for the October 2026 fireworks. Then book the auction for a trading day and keep the Sunday for Tsukiji, Senkyaku Banrai and the bay.
