Toyosu Market in November 2026: Opening Days, Weather, Seasonal Seafood & Best Time to Visit
Toyosu Market is open 21 days in November 2026 and closed on 9. See every closed day, the tuna auction lottery dates, dawn weather, seasonal seafood and the best days.

Toyosu Market is open on 21 days in November 2026 and closed on 9: 1, 3, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 23 and 29 November. Mornings are crisp, the bluefin is fattening towards winter, snow crab season opens on 6 November, and you come out of the auction just as the sun rises over the bay. The catch is the calendar, because Toyosu is a working wholesale market with its own closed days, including two Wednesdays that catch visitors out and two open Wednesdays that most guides call closed.
The short answer:
- Closed days: every Sunday (1, 8, 15, 22 and 29), the two national holidays (Tuesday 3 and Monday 23) and two Wednesdays (11 and 18). Wednesdays 4 and 25 close only the fruit and vegetable side, so the tuna auction still runs.
- The deadline: the lottery for the close-up auction deck in November runs for only about a week in early October. By the usual pattern that is 7 to 13 October, so apply then, and confirm the dates on the official lottery site. If you miss it, the upper visitor walkway is free, needs no booking and opens at 5:00 a.m.
- The best days: a weekday, arriving from 5:00 a.m., with sushi by about 7:00. Saturdays are open but busier, and Saturday 21 November is the start of a three-day weekend.
- On a closed day you cannot enter the market buildings at all, restaurants included. Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai next door is open every day of the year.
- Check first: the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has posted a notice titled “Restrictions on Entry to the Visitor’s Course at Toyosu Market” (25 September 2026). We have not been able to confirm its details, so read it on the official site before you plan your morning.
If you would rather not organise a pre-dawn arrival yourself, one small-group tour covers the tuna auction and a Tsukiji tasting walk. It cannot run on closed days, so check the date you want before you book.
Is Toyosu Market open in November 2026?
Yes, on 21 of November’s 30 days. The dates come from the official 2026 calendar of the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market, which two independent guides transcribe with the same November closed days. Visitor areas are open from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on trading days, and each shop and restaurant keeps its own hours. On a closed day you cannot enter the market buildings, and that includes the restaurants and shops. The one exception is the rooftop garden, which is open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. even on closed days.
| Date | Day | Toyosu seafood market | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sunday | Closed | Sunday |
| 2 | Monday | Open | The day before a holiday, and a good quiet weekday |
| 3 | Tuesday | Closed | Culture Day, a national holiday |
| 4 | Wednesday | Open | Only the fruit and vegetable side is closed; the tuna auction runs |
| 5 | Thursday | Open | |
| 6 | Friday | Open | Snow crab season opens on the Sea of Japan coast |
| 7 | Saturday | Open | A busier Saturday; Tori-no-ichi festival in Asakusa |
| 8 | Sunday | Closed | Sunday |
| 9 and 10 | Monday, Tuesday | Open | The 10th is the last open day before a mid-week closure |
| 11 | Wednesday | Closed | A designated closed Wednesday |
| 12 to 14 | Thursday to Saturday | Open | Saturday is busier |
| 15 | Sunday | Closed | Sunday, and Shichi-Go-San day at shrines |
| 16 and 17 | Monday, Tuesday | Open | |
| 18 | Wednesday | Closed | A designated closed Wednesday |
| 19 | Thursday | Open | Second Tori-no-ichi day |
| 20 | Friday | Open | The Tokyo Christmas Market is reported to open at New Toyosu |
| 21 | Saturday | Open | The start of a three-day weekend, so expect crowds |
| 22 | Sunday | Closed | Sunday |
| 23 | Monday | Closed | Labor Thanksgiving Day, a national holiday |
| 24 | Tuesday | Open | The first open day after the long weekend |
| 25 | Wednesday | Open | Only the fruit and vegetable side is closed; the tuna auction runs |
| 26 and 27 | Thursday, Friday | Open | |
| 28 | Saturday | Open | A busier Saturday, and probably a peak ginkgo weekend |
| 29 | Sunday | Closed | Sunday |
| 30 | Monday | Open |
How the closures cluster:
- 1 to 3 November has two closures in three days, with only Monday 2 open between them.
- 21 to 23 November is a three-day holiday weekend. The market is open on Saturday 21 and closed on 22 and 23, so Saturday 21 will be busy.
- The two mid-week closures, 11 and 18 November, fall in consecutive weeks, so a visitor in Tokyo from 10 to 19 November loses two weekdays as well as a Sunday.
- 4 and 25 November are the surprise open Wednesdays. The official calendar notes that only the fruit and vegetable side closes on those days. The other open Wednesdays of 2026 are 6 May, 12 August, 23 September, 14 October and 30 December.
The authority can add or move a closed day, so check the official Toyosu Market calendar for your exact date. Our guide to when to visit Toyosu Fish Market has the full 2026 and 2027 closed-day calendar and a date checker.
A November morning at the market fits into a bigger bay-side day. Within a short ride you have the Tsukiji Outer Market food stalls, the Senkyaku Banrai food street and Manyo Club onsen next to the market, teamLab Planets one Yurikamome stop away, LaLaport Toyosu, and Odaiba with its Rainbow Bridge views. The tuna auction and how to watch it in November
The tuna auction runs from about 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. on open days, and there are two free ways to watch. How long it lasts depends on how much tuna is for sale that day.
| Upper visitor walkway (walk-up) | Close-up observation deck (lottery) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Free |
| Booking | None | Online lottery, one application per group, not first come, first served |
| Capacity | No cap reported | 100 people a day, up to 5 in a group, infants included |
| Time | Opens 5:00 a.m. | Meet at 5:30 a.m. at the PR Corner, 3rd floor of the Block 7 management building; viewing 5:45 to 6:25 a.m. |
| ID | None | Photo ID for every participant, plus the results screen |
| View | From above, behind double glazing | The same floor behind a single pane, so you hear the bell and the auctioneers |
| Rules | No flash | No flash, no date changes, no transfer or resale, and intoxicated visitors are refused |
| If you lose | Watch from the upper walkway as normal |
When does the November 2026 deck lottery open?
The November window will most likely run from Wednesday 7 October (15:00 Japan time) to Tuesday 13 October (23:59), with winners announced around Thursday 22 October at 18:00. The official November notice had not been published when we checked on 30 September 2026, so these dates are inferred from a pattern that has held for every recent round. Tokyo Cheapo notes that applications open during the first week of the month for the following month.
| Tour month | Entry window (Japan time) | Results |
|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | Wednesday 3 December 15:00 to Tuesday 9 December 23:59 (2025) | Thursday 18 December, 18:00 |
| February 2026 | Wednesday 7 January 15:00 to Tuesday 13 January 23:59 | About Thursday 22 January |
| March 2026 | Wednesday 4 February 15:00 to Tuesday 10 February 23:59 | About Thursday 19 February |
| October 2026 | Wednesday 2 September 15:00 to Tuesday 8 September 23:59 | Posted on Thursday 17 September |
| November 2026 | Expected: Wednesday 7 October 15:00 to Tuesday 13 October 23:59 | Expected: about Thursday 22 October |
| December 2026 | Expected: about Wednesday 4 to Tuesday 10 November | Expected: about Thursday 19 November |
The official lottery site still showed only the October results notice on 30 September, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government says application details are updated early every month. The expected tour days are every open seafood day: 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 30 November. That is also an inference, because the February 2026 notice listed every open day, Saturdays included.
How to apply, from the official process document:
- The lead applicant must be of junior-high-school age or older.
- The form asks for the lead’s name, date of birth, country of residence and email, up to four companions’ names, and your top three preferred dates.
- Only the latest application counts, and one email address can apply only once.
- Only winners are notified, so if you hear nothing, log in and check your status yourself.
- Applications are not accepted from 25 December to 5 January.
Do not count on a tour to enter for you. An independent guide citing the official FAQ reports that applications from travel agencies and event companies are not accepted, and that transfer or resale is prohibited. Some tour listings still offer optional lottery assistance, and one asks you to book by the 5th of the previous month. No tour can guarantee a place on the deck, so treat a tour as the way to get there, have it explained and eat well afterwards. Our guide to the tuna auction lottery and viewing times sets out the windows.
How do I get to Toyosu by 5 a.m.?
Getting there by 5:00 a.m. is a question of where you sleep. Checking the official Yurikamome timetable, an independent guide found that:
- the first Yurikamome from Shimbashi leaves at 5:45 a.m., too late for a 5:30 a.m. deck meeting;
- the first train from Toyosu leaves at 5:15 a.m. and reaches Shijo-mae at 5:17 a.m.;
- a 5:20 a.m. train from Ariake reaches Shijo-mae at 5:24 a.m.
Yurikamome says only that its first train starts around 5:00 a.m., so check the current timetable. Your options are to stay in Toyosu, Ariake or Odaiba, to take a taxi from central Tokyo, or to book a tour with hotel pickup, and several tour listings include a taxi pickup from around 4:20 to 5:00 a.m. Shijo-mae Station connects to the market by covered pedestrian deck. There is no visitor car or bicycle parking. Our guides to getting to Toyosu Market before sunrise and where to stay for the tuna auction cover the options.
Weather in Tokyo in November
November is cool, dry and mostly bright. The Japan Meteorological Agency’s 1991 to 2020 normals for Tokyo give an average high of 16.7 °C, an average low of 8.8 °C and 96.3 mm of rain.
| Early November | Late November | |
|---|---|---|
| Daytime | Mild, often the high teens | Noticeably cooler, mid-teens or lower |
| At 5:00 a.m. by the bay | Around 10 to 13 °C and breezy | Can dip to single figures, with wind chill |
| Sunrise (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan) | 6:08 a.m. on 7 November | 6:18 a.m. on 17 November, 6:28 a.m. on 27 November |
| What to wear | A light jacket and layers | A warm jacket and scarf, with gloves for the deck |
| Typhoon risk | Low, as the season has largely passed | Very low |
The 5 a.m. factor. You will arrive well before sunrise all month, on an exposed man-made island in Tokyo Bay. The upper walkway is double-glazed and mild. The lottery deck is open to the auction hall, and one visitor guide describes it as almost like a freezer. Bring an extra layer even if the afternoon forecast is 18 °C.
Seasonal seafood in November
November sits on the cusp between autumn and winter, which is when oily, rich fish and the first winter delicacies arrive. Treat the table as seasonal guidance, because what is on a menu depends on the catch. Ask for shun (peak-season) items or osusume (the chef’s recommendation).
| Fish | English | Why November | How to eat it at Toyosu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kuromaguro (Oma maguro) | Pacific bluefin (Oma, Aomori) | Northern bluefin fatten into winter, and Oma is where the ¥510.3 million record fish came from | Chutoro and otoro at sushi counters, maguro-don |
| Buri and warasa | Yellowtail (adult and younger) | The fish moves towards kan-buri, winter yellowtail, as it gets fattier | Sashimi, nigiri, buri-shabu |
| Zuwaigani | Snow crab | The Sea of Japan season opens on 6 November | Crab-topped kaisendon, boiled legs (a splurge) |
| Kaki | Oysters | The winter oyster season begins | Raw or fried at kaisen restaurants |
| Ikura and sake | Salmon roe and autumn salmon | The autumn salmon run brings fresh-season roe | Ikura-don, gunkan nigiri |
| Sanma | Pacific saury | The tail end of the season | Grilled set meals, if available |
| Kawahagi | Thread-sail filefish | The liver fattens as the water cools | Nigiri with a dab of its liver |
| Ankimo | Monkfish liver | Winter richness begins | Gunkan, or chilled as an appetiser |
| Shirako | Cod milt | An early winter delicacy | With ponzu, or as tempura |
| Fugu | Pufferfish | The season traditionally starts in autumn | Specialist restaurants only, with licensed chefs |
| Kinmedai | Splendid alfonsino | Fattier in the cold months | Aburi (seared) nigiri, simmered |
| Hotate | Scallop | Sweet and plump | Nigiri, grilled |
| Hokke and hatahata | Atka mackerel and sandfish | Northern and Sea of Japan winter fish | Grilled set meals |
The snow crab is landed on the Sea of Japan coast, not in Tokyo Bay, so think of it as arriving at Toyosu and ask what is on sale. Our field guide to Japanese fish and seafood at Toyosu names what you are looking at, and our guide to winter seafood in December picks up where November leaves off.
Where to eat in the market
Eat early. The market’s restaurants serve market workers first, open before dawn and close by early afternoon, and popular dishes can sell out by mid-morning. A Japanese visitor report noted that at 10:00 a.m. some menus were sold out. An independent guide counts 39 restaurants inside the market.
- Sushi Dai, Daiwa Sushi, Sushi Yamazaki and Ryu-zushi are the famous counters. Expect long queues at Sushi Dai especially, so join the queue straight after the auction. Hours and closures are not individually verified here, and most follow the market calendar and close on Sundays, holidays and designated Wednesdays.
- Kaisendon counters serve budget-friendly bowls. One travel guide lists Nakaya as open from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays, so check before you go.
- Uogashi Yokocho (Block 6, 4th floor) has about 70 shops selling tamagoyaki, pickles, dried goods, tea, knives and kitchenware. Turret trucks and motorbikes pass through this floor. It is the best place for November souvenirs such as katsuobushi, nori and knives, and it winds down by around midday.
- Visitors cannot buy fish on the intermediate wholesale floor, which serves the trade only.
Our guide to the best sushi at Toyosu compares the counters and the queues.
The best time to visit Toyosu in November
The best time is a weekday, Monday to Friday, from 5:00 to 7:30 a.m. You get the auction first, then breakfast before the queues build. The quieter open weekdays away from holiday clusters are 5 and 6, 9 and 10, 12 and 13, 16 and 17, 24 to 27 and 30 November.
- Best time of morning: 5:00 to 6:30 a.m. for the auction, then sushi by 7:00 a.m. Shops and restaurants are winding down by 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
- Busier days: Saturdays, especially Saturday 21 November at the start of the long weekend and Saturday 28 November, which is likely to be a peak ginkgo weekend.
- PR Corner: open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and until 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays. The visitor corridors are open from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Check first: the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s 25 September 2026 notice, “Restrictions on Entry to the Visitor’s Course at Toyosu Market”. We could not confirm what it restricts or when, so read it before you finalise plans, because it may change the walk-up advice on this page.
If Toyosu is closed on your day
Go to Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai next door. It is the Edo-style food hall and onsen complex that opened on 1 February 2024, and it is open every day of the year, including market closure days.
| Option | Open on closed days? | Hours | Pairs with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Senkyaku Banrai food hall | Yes | Shops 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., restaurants 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (varies) | Lunch, souvenirs |
| Free 8th-floor footbath garden | Yes | 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. | Bay views at sunset |
| Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club onsen | Yes | 24 hours (paid; a morning slot is reported from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m.) | A warm-up after a cold dawn |
| Toyosu rooftop garden | Yes | 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. | Bay views |
| teamLab Planets | Usually | Timed tickets | A Toyosu half-day combination |
| Tsukiji Outer Market | Partly | Varies by shop, and many close on market closed days | Street food |
| Odaiba (by Yurikamome) | Yes | Rainbow Bridge, Christmas lights |
Footbath hours. Sources disagree, and we use 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., which the official Tokyo tourism site gives for the free 8th-floor garden. Older articles give 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., which appears to be the launch-period figure. Keep the two footbaths apart: the free 8th-floor garden is open to everyone, while the rooftop “Scenic Ashiyu” garden is for paying Manyo Club guests only.
Tsukiji on closed days. When the wholesale market is closed, many Tsukiji shops are closed as well, and the information centre, Plat Tsukiji, opens later (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). Around a third of shops, mostly restaurants, stay open on Sundays and holidays, according to an independent guide citing the Tsukiji Uogashi FAQ. Our Tsukiji Outer Market guide covers what to eat, and our guide to Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai has the details on the food street and onsen.
What else is on in Tokyo in November 2026
| Event | 2026 dates | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tori-no-ichi (Otori Shrine in Asakusa, and others) | Saturday 7 and Thursday 19 November | Only two rooster days in 2026; several sources agree |
| Snow crab season opens | 6 November | A fixed annual date |
| Tokyo Christmas Market at New Toyosu | 20 November to 25 December | Reported by Tokyo Cheapo and others, so verify with the organiser |
| Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Festival | Not announced | Typically mid-November to early December, with the ginkgo peak often in late November |
The Christmas Market at New Toyosu suits a late-November day: dawn at the market, a teamLab afternoon, and mulled wine in the evening a short hop away.
How Toyosu is laid out, and Toyosu or Tsukiji
Toyosu is three connected blocks linked by elevated pedestrian decks. Block 5 is the Fruit and Vegetable Building. Block 6 is the Fisheries Intermediate Wholesale Building, with most restaurants and the 4th-floor Uogashi Yokocho shops. Block 7 is the Fisheries Wholesale Building, where the tuna auction is held, and it includes the management building with the PR Corner on the 3rd floor. The market covers 407,000 square metres and opened on 11 October 2018. Visitors enter through the three pedestrian-deck entrances, one per block, and eating and drinking are prohibited in the visitor corridors.
Go to Toyosu for the auction and the working wholesale market, and to Tsukiji for grazing and shopping. Do both on one morning if you can. The wholesale market moved from Tsukiji in October 2018, and the Tsukiji Outer Market never moved.
| Toyosu | Tsukiji Outer Market | |
|---|---|---|
| Tuna auction | Only here | No |
| Atmosphere | Modern, glassed-in, orderly | Dense lanes and street food |
| Best hours | 5:00 to 10:00 a.m. | About 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with professional buying before 9:00 a.m. |
| Closed days | The official calendar, with no entry at all | The same calendar, but shop by shop |
Our Toyosu vs Tsukiji comparison sets out which suits your trip.
Rules and practicalities
- Etiquette: no flash photography, stay in the visitor areas, do not block the working areas, and watch for turret trucks in Uogashi Yokocho.
- Children: allowed. For the deck, infants count towards the five-person limit and need identification, reportedly a health insurance card for under-12s.
- Accessibility: Japanese sources report barrier-free corridors, lifts in each building and accessible toilets. Check before you go.
- Luggage: there are no confirmed market lockers. Senkyaku Banrai has coin lockers on the 2nd floor, so travel light.
- Payment: carry cash. Many market restaurants and small shops are cash-first, and card acceptance varies by shop.
- Time needed: 2 to 3 hours for the auction, a walk round and breakfast, or half a day with Senkyaku Banrai.
Sample November half-day itineraries
The classic dawn (an open weekday):
- 4:45 a.m.: taxi or tour pickup
- 5:00 a.m.: the upper walkway opens
- 5:30 to 6:30 a.m.: the auction
- 6:45 a.m.: sushi breakfast
- 8:00 a.m.: Uogashi Yokocho shopping
- 9:00 a.m.: the free footbath at Senkyaku Banrai
- 10:00 a.m.: teamLab Planets
Market to market (an open weekday): watch the auction from 5:00 to 6:30 a.m., have breakfast at 7:00 a.m., travel to Tsukiji at 8:30 a.m. and graze there from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. This is the shape of most Toyosu and Tsukiji tours.
Closed-day rescue (for example Wednesday 11 or 18 November): the footbath at Senkyaku Banrai at 9:00 a.m., lunch in the Edo-style food hall at 10:00 a.m., teamLab Planets at noon and sunset in Odaiba at 4:00 p.m.
Late-November special (from 20 November): dawn at Toyosu, midday at the Jingu Gaien ginkgo if it is at its peak, and an evening at the Tokyo Christmas Market at New Toyosu. Our teamLab Planets and Toyosu itinerary sets out four timed plans.
Guided tours in November
Tuna auction and Tsukiji food tours typically watch from the upper walkway from about 5:00 to 6:30 a.m. and then walk to Tsukiji. Most tours watch from the same free upper walkway, so what a tour sells is interpretation, logistics before the first trains and, in some cases, a secured restaurant seat. Be wary of any listing that promises guaranteed lower-deck access.
- The Toyosu Tuna Auction & Tsukiji Market Gourmet Adventure is a 3.5-hour small-group tour, from $114.
- The Toyosu Tuna Auction + Breakfast at Sushi Dai or Bentomi is a 3-hour tour, from $113, built around breakfast at one of the two counters, with the meal paid separately.
- The Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Food Tour with Tuna Auction is a 3.5-hour food tour, from $120.
- The Private Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Adventure with Tuna Auction is a 3-hour private tour, from $165, which suits a group who want their own guide.

How many days is Toyosu open in November 2026?
21 days.

Take the Yurikamome to Shijo-mae, which connects directly to the market. There is no visitor parking.
What was the record tuna price?
¥510.3 million for a 243 kg Oma bluefin at the New Year auction on 5 January 2026, bought by Kiyomura Corp. (Sushi Zanmai). The previous record was ¥333.6 million in 2019. Our guide to bluefin tuna auction record prices explains why.
Bottom line
Pick a weekday from the open list, get to the upper walkway by 5:00 a.m., and have breakfast before the queues build. Apply for the deck lottery in the first week of October if you want the close-up view, and read the 25 September visitor-course notice before you go. If your trip runs into the winter, our guides to Toyosu Market in December 2026 and Toyosu Market at New Year cover the year-end closure and the first auction. Dates on this page were last checked on 30 September 2026, and the lottery window, the Christmas Market and the ginkgo festival dates may change once they are announced.
