Toyosu Market in October 2026: Opening Days, Autumn Seafood, Weather & Best Time to Visit
Toyosu Market is open 23 days in October 2026 and closed on 8, including Sports Day. See the open days, autumn seafood, the weather and the best mornings to go.

Toyosu Market is open on 23 of the 31 days in October 2026. It is closed on 8: Sunday 4, Wednesday 7, Sunday 11, Monday 12 (Sports Day), Sunday 18, Wednesday 21, Sunday 25 and Wednesday 28 October. Wednesday 14 October is a trap in the opposite direction: the seafood side, and so the tuna auction, runs normally that day, while only the fruit and vegetable side closes. Add mild post-summer weather (the Japan Meteorological Agency’s 1991 to 2020 normals for Tokyo give an average high of 22.0 °C and an average low of 14.8 °C) and the start of the richest autumn fish season, and October is one of the best months of the year to visit. The hazards are rain, since October is one of Tokyo’s wettest months at 234.8 mm, and the tail end of typhoon season.
The short answer:
- Closed days: 4, 7, 11, 12, 18, 21, 25 and 28 October. On those days the market buildings, the visitor corridors and all in-market restaurants are shut. Only the rooftop garden and the separate Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai complex next door stay open. Sports Day is a closure, so the 10 to 12 October holiday weekend gives you just one market day, Saturday 10.
- Best plan: go on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Reach the free upper visitor walkway by about 5:30 a.m. (the auction runs from roughly 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. and starts before sunrise, which comes between 5:35 and 6:01 a.m. this month). Eat sushi straight afterwards, then move to Tsukiji Outer Market from 9:00 a.m. or to Senkyaku Banrai from 10:00 a.m.
- Getting there: the first Yurikamome train from Shimbashi (5:45 a.m.) cannot get you there for a 5:30 a.m. start. A taxi, a hotel near Toyosu or Ariake, or the 5:15 a.m. departure from Toyosu Station can.
- Autumn seafood: returning bonito, fresh salmon roe, autumn mackerel and a sanma (Pacific saury) season with record prices.
- Check first: the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has posted a notice titled “Restrictions on Entry to the Visitor’s Course at Toyosu Market” (25 September 2026). We have not been able to confirm its details, so read it on the official site before you plan your morning.
If you would rather not organise a pre-dawn arrival yourself, one small-group tour covers the tuna auction and a Tsukiji tasting walk. It cannot run on closed days, so check the date you want before you book.
Toyosu Market opening days in October 2026
The Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market published its 2026 calendar on 5 September 2025. For seafood it lists 251 open days and 114 closed days in 2026, and it notes that 14 October, 4 November, 25 November and 30 December are closed for the fruit and vegetable side only. The October dates below match two independent 2026 guides that transcribe the calendar, and they fit the official note about 14 October.
| Date (October 2026) | Day | Toyosu seafood market | Tuna auction | In-market restaurants | Senkyaku Banrai |

Three of the four October Wednesdays are closed (7, 21 and 28 October), and 14 October is open for seafood. “Closed every Wednesday” is a myth: the 2026 calendar has seven open Wednesdays in total, 6 May, 12 August, 23 September, 14 October, 4 November, 25 November and 30 December. Sports Day on Monday 12 October is a closure, so the market is shut on Sunday and Monday, 11 and 12 October. The authority can add or move a closed day, so check the official Toyosu Market calendar for your exact date. Our guide to when to visit Toyosu Fish Market has the full 2026 and 2027 closed-day calendar and a date checker.
Hours, from the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market:
- Visitor corridors, including the restaurant and shop areas: 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on open days only.
- Toyosu Market PR Corner: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and until 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
- Rooftop garden: 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and open even on closed days.
- Individual restaurants and shops keep their own hours, and the market warns that some close before the visitor corridors do. In practice most eateries run from about 5:00 to 6:30 a.m. until 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
- The legal trading hours run from 16:00 the previous day to 16:00 on the day, which is why little happens in the afternoon.
An October morning at the market fits into a bigger bay-side day. Within a short ride you have the Tsukiji Outer Market food stalls, the Senkyaku Banrai food street and Manyo Club onsen next to the market, teamLab Planets one Yurikamome stop away, LaLaport Toyosu, and Odaiba with its Rainbow Bridge views. Guided Tokyo market mornings, food tours and other experiences are below:
The tuna auction: two ways to watch, both free

| Capacity | No cap | 100 people a day, up to 5 in a group, and infants count as a person |
| Time | From 5:00 a.m.; the auction runs roughly 5:30 to 6:30 a.m., and the end time varies with the day’s volume | Meet at 5:30 a.m. at the PR Corner, 3rd floor of the Block 7 management building; viewing 5:45 to 6:25 a.m. |

Lottery status for October and November 2026. The October 2026 round ran from about 2 to 8 September, and results were posted on 17 September on the official lottery site. Applications for each month open in the early part of the previous month, around 15:00 on the first day, for about a week. The official November window is shown by the Tokyo government only as an image, and we could not confirm it. On the pattern of past rounds, expect roughly 7 to 13 October, and confirm on the lottery site. Our November 2026 guide has the full window and how to apply.
Do not count on a tour to enter for you. An independent guide citing the official FAQ reports that applications from travel agencies and event companies are not accepted, and that passes cannot be transferred or resold. Some travel blogs say tour operators will apply for you, which conflicts with those rules. Our guide to the tuna auction lottery and viewing times sets out the windows.
Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai, next door
Senkyaku Banrai’s official FAQ says it has no closing days and opens even when the market is closed. Its hours are:
- Shops: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Restaurants: 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (3rd floor until 8:00 p.m., and a few 2nd-floor places open at 9:00 a.m.)
- Free footbath garden, 8th floor: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Tokyo Toyosu Manyo Club onsen: 24 hours. Morning-bath reception is reported as 5:00 to 9:00 a.m., at ¥2,200 for adults plus a ¥150 bathing tax.
October notices on the Senkyaku Banrai site:
- The 8th-floor footbath and a café have changed hours on 3 and 16 October for private hire, and the footbath closes all day on 24 October, which is fireworks night.
- The Manyo Club’s main bath and changing-room hours change on 6 to 9 October.
- Events include Awa-odori dancing on Saturday 3 October and a “Sanma Tairyo Festival” on Monday 12 October at 13:00, with numbered tickets from 11:00 a.m.
It is free to enter and has coin lockers on the 2nd floor. Its retail and dining zone was reportedly renamed “Toyosu Jogai Shijo” (Toyosu Outer Market) on 1 September 2025, which has nothing to do with the Tsukiji Outer Market. Our guide to Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai has the details.
Visitor rules:
- Enter from the pedestrian deck, where there is one entrance per block, three in all.
- Do not eat or drink in the corridors or on the benches.
- The public cannot buy on the intermediate wholesale floor. Stay in the visitor corridors and watch for turret trucks.
- There is no visitor car or bicycle parking, so use the Yurikamome or a bus.
- There is no general minimum age for the corridors. For the lottery, the lead applicant must be of junior-high age or older.
- We found no official Toyosu rule on large luggage, so use the Senkyaku Banrai lockers or leave bags at your hotel.
Autumn seafood in October
October is the start of the richest autumn fish season. Treat the table as seasonal guidance, because what is on a menu depends on the catch.
| Fish | October status | Where you will see or eat it | Note for 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modori-gatsuo (returning bonito) | At its peak from September to October, fattier than spring bonito and sometimes called toro-gatsuo | Katsuo tataki, bonito sashimi or zuke-don | A rich, seasonal, photogenic pick |
| Sanma (Pacific saury) | The classic autumn fish, September to October | Grilled at izakaya and set-meal counters, and at the Senkyaku Banrai sanma festival on 12 October | See below: supply is tight and prices are high |
| Aki-zake and ikura (autumn salmon and fresh salmon roe) | Autumn salmon in September and October, with fresh Hokkaido sujiko available now | Ikura-don and kaisen-don counters | Freshly cured new-season ikura is an October treat |
| Aki-saba (autumn mackerel) | Fattening up | Shime-saba nigiri, grilled saba | Good value |
| Kawahagi (filefish) | The liver swells in autumn | Nigiri with the liver on top at better sushi counters | An insider order |
| Warasa to buri (yellowtail) | Starting, and the fattest kan-buri comes in winter | Sushi counters | The start of the season |
| Kamasu, aori-ika and sardine | Autumn value fish | Set meals, nigiri | Everyday picks |
| Pacific bluefin tuna | Traded all year, and wild autumn and winter fish are prized for their fat | Every sushi counter, and the auction itself | The reason most people come |
| Snow crab (zuwaigani) | Not October: the Sea of Japan season opens on 6 November | Say “coming 6 November” | The opening date is sourced from Kyoto Prefecture’s fisheries information |
Sanma in 2026. The first sanma of the season set a Toyosu record of ¥700,000 a kilogram on 10 July 2026, according to Jiji Press. The Fisheries Research and Education Agency and the Fisheries Agency’s outlook of 28 July 2026 estimated the sanma stock at 429,000 tonnes, against 1,099,000 tonnes in 2025, and Nikkei reported that as possibly the lowest since surveys began in 2003. Expect supply to be tight and expensive, and treat these as pre-season figures, because the actual October catch may differ.
Autumn produce such as matsutake passes through the Fruit and Vegetable Building (Block 5), but that is a produce auction gallery and not a retail spot, and the produce side is closed on 14 October.
Our field guide to Japanese fish and seafood at Toyosu names what you are looking at.
Where to eat inside the market
Verify prices and hours before you go, because they change often and come mostly from reviews. All in-market restaurants close on market closure days.
| Restaurant | Location | Hours | Price (latest found) | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sushi Dai | Block 6, 3rd floor, 18 seats | The shop’s X account (14 September 2026) gives 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the name list opening from 5:00 a.m. and last entry about 1:30 p.m.; the official site still says 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. | Omakase from about ¥5,500 (late-2025 reports), cash only | You sign up and get a return time: about 1 hour off-peak and 2 to 4 hours at peak, and it can be full by about 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays |
| Daiwa Sushi | Block 5, Fruit and Vegetable Building, 1st floor, 24 seats | About 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. | A set of 7 nigiri, a roll and miso; the last firm price found was ¥4,400 in 2020; card payment is disputed, so bring cash | Faster turnover, with seat reservations reported through TableCheck (¥400 a person, on weekdays 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. and Saturdays 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.) |
| Sushi Bun | Block 6, 3rd floor, about 15 seats | 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. | Omakase about ¥6,600 (an October 2025 report, unverified), cash only | Short, and it takes reservations |
| Nakaya (kaisen-don) | Block 6, 3rd floor, 15 seats | 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. | Bowls roughly ¥3,000 to ¥5,000 and up (uni-don about ¥4,500), cash only | Usually short |
| Bentomi | Block 6, 3rd floor | 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. | Known for uni-don | Bookable through some tours |

Weather in Tokyo in October
The Japan Meteorological Agency’s 1991 to 2020 normals for Tokyo in October:
| Measure | October normal | What it means for your visit |
|---|---|---|
| Average temperature | 18.0 °C | Pleasant walking weather |
| Average high | 22.0 °C | A T-shirt plus a light layer by midday |
| Average low | 14.8 °C | 5:00 a.m. at the waterfront feels cool, so bring a jacket |
| Rainfall | 234.8 mm | One of Tokyo’s wettest months, so pack an umbrella |
| Relative humidity | 71% | Far less sticky than August |
| Sunshine | 129.4 hours a month | Many grey days |
| Typhoon approaches (Kanto and Koshin region) | 0.7 in October | The risk is mostly in early October |
| Sunrise (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan) | 5:35 a.m. on 1 October, 5:44 a.m. on 12 October, 6:01 a.m. on 31 October | The auction starts in pre-dawn darkness |
Recent Octobers have run warmer than the normals. October 2024 was Tokyo’s warmest October on record, with a mean of 20.6 °C, and October 2025 was very dull, with 74.1 hours of sunshine, the fourth lowest on record. Check the Japan Meteorological Agency’s forecast and typhoon warnings before you travel.
What to wear: closed-toe, non-slip shoes, since the market floors are wet and trucks move about. Add a light down or fleece layer for the 5:00 a.m. start, because the lower observation deck is kept close to freezing, and carry a compact umbrella.
The best time to visit Toyosu in October 2026
Best days: Tuesday to Friday on open days. Good weeks are 1 and 2, 5 and 6, 8 and 9, 13 to 16, 19 and 20, 22 and 23, 26 and 27, and 29 and 30 October.
Days to avoid:
- Saturdays, which have the biggest queues, and Sushi Dai’s list can close by about 6:00 a.m. Saturday 10 October is the only market day of the Sports Day long weekend.
- Saturday 24 October: the Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks are scheduled, according to Koto City’s official page, with about 12,000 shells fired from off Harumi Pier between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. The event is ticketed, with no free viewing, and it is cancelled in bad weather with no postponement date. The market morning should be fine, but bay-area hotels and transport will be busy from the afternoon.
- Saturday 31 October, Halloween: the market is open, but evening crowds build in central Tokyo.
Best time of day:
- Tuna auction: 5:00 to 6:30 a.m.
- Sushi breakfast: straight after the auction, or late morning (about 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.) at the quicker counters.
- Uogashi Yokocho shopping: the operating cooperative lists more than 70 specialist businesses, mainly on the 4th floor of the Block 6 building, selling knives, tea, dashi, tamagoyaki and kitchen gear. Go from early morning to about midday, because many stalls wind down after 8:00 or 9:00 a.m.
- Senkyaku Banrai: from 10:00 a.m.
- Tsukiji Outer Market: the association recommends 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. On Sundays and holidays about a third of shops, mainly restaurants, stay open, which makes Tsukiji the rescue plan for the closed days of 4, 11, 12, 18 and 25 October.
October events at or near Toyosu:
- Awa-odori dancing at Senkyaku Banrai on Saturday 3 October
- The sanma festival on Monday 12 October
- A Pixar exhibition at CREVIA BASE Tokyo and Oktoberfest at LaLaport Toyosu, both until 12 October
- The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks on 24 October
- A Malaysia Fair in Toyosu Park from 30 October to 1 November
- A weekly Saturday 11:30 a.m. tuna-cutting show at Sushi Yasuke (Senkyaku Banrai, 2nd floor), first announced in 2025, so confirm it is still running
If Toyosu is closed on your day
Use the closed days (4, 11, 12, 18 and 25 October, and the Wednesdays 7, 21 and 28) for Tsukiji Outer Market, Senkyaku Banrai and teamLab Planets. The visitor corridors are fully indoors on open days, so a wet morning is not a reason to skip the market, but a closed day is; our rainy-day guide has wet-weather plans for the area. Our Tsukiji Outer Market guide covers what to eat, and our teamLab Planets and Toyosu itinerary sets out four timed plans.
The 6:30 to 10:00 a.m. gap. The auction ends, Uogashi Yokocho winds down, and Senkyaku Banrai does not open until 10:00 a.m. Fill it with breakfast, the Manyo Club morning bath or an early start at Tsukiji at 9:00 a.m.
The wholesale market moved from Tsukiji to Toyosu on 11 October 2018, and the Tsukiji Outer Market never moved. Our Toyosu vs Tsukiji comparison sets out which suits your trip.
Practical logistics
- Station: Shijo-mae (U-14) on the Yurikamome line, linked to the market by covered walkways. Shimbashi to Shijo-mae takes about 27 to 29 minutes. Suica and Pasmo work, and the one-day pass costs ¥820 for adults.
- Can you make the 5:30 a.m. auction by public transport?
- From Shimbashi, no. The first train is at 5:45 a.m. and arrives around 6:13 a.m., which catches only the tail end of the auction on the upper walkway.
- From Toyosu Station, yes. The 5:15 a.m. Yurikamome reaches Shijo-mae at 5:17 a.m.
- From Ariake or Odaiba, yes. The first train toward Toyosu calls at Shijo-mae at 5:24 a.m.
- We could not confirm the first Tokyo Metro Yurakucho-line train into Toyosu, so check a journey planner before relying on that route. Otherwise take a taxi, or stay in Toyosu, Ariake or Odaiba.
- Cash: most in-market restaurants are cash only. Carry ¥10,000 to ¥15,000 a person.
- Photography: allowed from the corridors, and flash is banned on the lottery deck. Ask before photographing at Tsukiji stalls.
- Accessibility: the visitor corridors have lifts. Senkyaku Banrai lends wheelchairs (limited units, request in advance) but has no pushchair storage.
- Budget: entry is free. A sushi breakfast costs about ¥4,500 to ¥6,600, and the Manyo Club morning bath is ¥2,350 including tax.
- Time to allow: 2 to 3 hours for the auction plus breakfast, and half a day with Tsukiji or teamLab Planets, which is walkable from the market and a natural rainy-day pairing.
Our guides to getting to Toyosu Market before sunrise and where to stay for the tuna auction cover the pre-dawn options.
Guided tours in October
A tour does not get you better auction access. The lottery deck is free, individuals enter it themselves, and agencies cannot apply for you. Most tours watch from the same free upper walkway, so what they sell is interpretation (the hand signals, how buyers judge tuna, the market’s history), logistics before the first trains and, in some cases, a secured restaurant seat. Treat any listing that promises guaranteed lower-deck access with suspicion.
- The Toyosu Tuna Auction & Tsukiji Market Gourmet Adventure is a 3.5-hour small-group tour, from $114.
- The Toyosu Tuna Auction + Breakfast at Sushi Dai or Bentomi is a 3-hour tour, from $113, built around breakfast at one of the two counters, with the meal paid separately. A seat at a counter removes the biggest pain point of a Toyosu morning.
- The Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Food Tour with Tuna Auction is a 3.5-hour food tour, from $120.
- The Private Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Adventure with Tuna Auction is a 3-hour private tour, from $165, which suits a group who want their own guide.
Our comparison of Tokyo fish market tours covers every format, and our guide to how much a tuna auction tour costs compares the prices.

No. Monday 12 October is a closed day, so the market is shut on both 11 and 12 October.

Do I need a ticket?
No. The upper walkway is free and needs no booking. Only the close-up deck needs a lottery win.

Go to Senkyaku Banrai, which is open every day, and to the rooftop garden. Tsukiji Outer Market also keeps about a third of its shops open on Sundays and holidays.
Is this worth planning around?
Yes if it matches your priorities, but always check the official Toyosu calendar and current visitor arrangements for your exact date.
Bottom line
Visit on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, be at the upper walkway by 5:30 a.m., and eat sushi straight afterwards. Skip Sundays, Sports Day and the closed Wednesdays, and remember that Wednesday 14 October is open for seafood. Bring cash, a light jacket and an umbrella, and read the 25 September visitor-course notice before you go. Our guides to Toyosu Market in November 2026 and in December 2026 cover the months that follow. Dates on this page were last checked on 30 September 2026, and restaurant hours, prices and event details may change.
