Fresh oysters piled on ice at a Japanese seafood market counter

A small-group tuna auction tour at Toyosu costs from about $112 to $128 per person. A private guide is priced for your group, so it costs $331 for one person but $118 each when four of you book. On most tours, breakfast and the taxi to a 5:00 a.m. start are paid on top. Watching the auction from the upper visitor deck is free, so the price covers the guide, the early start and what happens after the auction.

The main price differences

  • A good all-round option: the Toyosu Tuna Auction & Tsukiji Market Gourmet Adventure, from $114 per person and rated 4.9/5 from more than 400 reviews.
  • The small-group auction mornings all cost about the same. They sit between $112 and $128 and watch from the same public deck. What differs is breakfast, whether you finish at Tsukiji, and how many reviews the operator has.
  • A private guide gets much cheaper per person as your group grows. The Private Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Adventure costs $331 for one person, $165 each for two and $118 each for four.
  • Breakfast is usually extra. The $114 tour sells an option with a meal and hotel pickup for $172 per person, and the Sushi Dai or Bentomi tour reserves your seat but not the food.
  • Getting there at 5:00 a.m. is usually your job. Trains don’t run early enough, so budget for a taxi unless you book a pickup option.

The tour we’d compare first

At $114, the Toyosu–Tsukiji small-group tour costs roughly the same as the other small-group auction tours, but it has by far the longest review record of the ones we compared. It also includes the transfer from Toyosu to Tsukiji, while the tuna nigiri tour leaves you to arrange and pay for it yourself.

The tour runs from about 5:00 to 8:30 a.m. Hotel pickup costs $12 more per person for two or more people, and if you book by the 5th of the month before, the operator enters you in the official lottery for the close-up deck. Our full review of this tour covers what the lower-rated reviews say.

If there are four of you

The private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour covers the auction, the market shops and Tsukiji in about three hours with a guide for your group only, for up to ten people. The bus from Toyosu to Tsukiji is included. For four people it costs $118 each, $4 more per person than the small-group tour.

It makes most sense for a family or group of four who want their own guide and a more flexible pace. It is poor value for a solo traveller, who pays the full $331. Breakfast isn't included, and hotel pickup adds $14 per person for four.

If you want a sushi counter seat reserved

The Tuna Auction + Breakfast at Sushi Dai or Bentomi is a two-hour morning at Toyosu only, with the auction, a guided walk and a reserved seat at one of the two counters. You pay for the meal at the restaurant.

This is the better fit if a famous sushi breakfast matters more to you than visiting Tsukiji afterwards. The Bentomi option is from $113 per person, and the Sushi Dai option cost $155 for a late-September date.

These are the small-group tours that meet before dawn and watch the tuna auction. Every tour on this page is linked, and each shows its rating and review count, because a tour with only a handful of reviews is harder to judge than one with hundreds.

The auction is over by about 6:30 a.m. on most mornings, so the difference between these tours is mostly what happens afterwards. The breakfast tour keeps you at Toyosu for a set seafood breakfast and time in the market shops, and it needs at least four guests to run. If fewer book, its listing says you’ll be offered another date or a refund. The $114 Toyosu–Tsukiji tour and the tuna nigiri tour move on to Tsukiji, where the stalls are opening as you arrive.

The Toyosu & Tsukiji Market Tour from Clover Travel and the $114 tour from JRT Group publish the same inclusions and the same minute-by-minute timetable. It costs $6 more and has 30 reviews against more than 400, so we can’t see a reason to choose it over the original.

What does a private Toyosu tour cost?

Private tours at Toyosu are priced for the group. A solo traveller pays for the whole guide, and the price per person drops quickly as you add people.

Prices for a late-September departure, checked on 24 September 2026.

At the starting price, four people on the private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour pay $472 in total, against $456 for four places on the small-group Toyosu–Tsukiji tour. For $16 more between you, you get a guide who waits for nobody else, and the bus to Tsukiji is still included. For two people the gap is $51 each, and for one person the private tour costs nearly three times as much.

The licensed-guide food tour charges one flat price for the group, which makes it the lowest price per person for four. It has 4 reviews averaging 3.7/5, though, and no car is included: the guide travels with you on foot and by taxi. We’d pay the extra for the longer review record of the private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour.

Two other private listings had no dates on sale through mid-December. The Toyosu Market Private Tour with Hotel Pickup is listed from $50 and has no reviews yet. Its listing says you walk the wholesale floor, which visitors can’t normally do. The Toyosu Behind the Scenes Tour & Luxury Sushi is listed from $224 per person with a chef-led market visit and a sushi lunch course, and also has no reviews yet.

Daytime and hands-on Toyosu tours

If a 4 a.m. alarm is the problem, a few tours visit Toyosu later in the morning. None of them includes the auction, and each spends a different amount of time in the market itself.

The two sushi-class days are the only tours in this table that take you onto the market floor with a buyer, rather than along the visitor corridors. Their listings say that access depends on the guide’s permission to shop there. Both have only one or two reviews, so we’d treat them as promising rather than proven.

What you get as you spend more

Around $107 to $130: a small-group morning, or a private one for four. The auction mornings and the daytime food walk sit here. With a small group you share the guide and watch from the public deck. A breakfast is included on one tour, a car to Tsukiji on another, and four people can have the private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour to themselves for $118 each.

Around $150 to $225: a private guide for two, or a longer day. Two people pay $165 each for the private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour. The sushi-making days also sit here, with the market visit, a class and a meal you make yourself.

Above $300: a private guide on your own. One person pays $331 for the private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour and $315 for the licensed-guide tour. The auction is watched from the same deck as on a $114 group tour.

What you’ll pay on top

Breakfast. Most auction tours stop for breakfast inside the market and leave the bill to you. Bring cash, because Sushi Dai and several other counters don’t take cards. On the $114 Toyosu–Tsukiji tour, the option with a meal and hotel pickup costs $58 more per person than the basic tour, for two or more people. Our guide to sushi at Toyosu covers what the counters serve.

The taxi to a 5:00 a.m. start. The first trains reach Shijō-mae too late, and Tokyo taxis add a 20% late-night surcharge until 5:00 a.m. Hotel pickup costs $12 more per person on the small-group Toyosu–Tsukiji tour, and $22 more per person for two on the private one. Our guide to getting to Toyosu before dawn covers the routes.

The fare to Tsukiji. It’s included on the $114 Toyosu–Tsukiji tour, its twin and the private Toyosu–Tsukiji tour. The tuna nigiri tour lists the bus as an extra.

What doesn’t change with the price

Paying more doesn’t get you a closer look at the auction. The tours on this page watch from the public deck unless you win the official lottery, which is free to enter yourself. The Sushi Dai or Bentomi tour also lists a ground-level deck option for up to four guests on request, but it had no dates on sale through mid-December. What the extra money changes is who you share the guide with, whether breakfast is covered and where the morning ends. Our lottery guide explains how to apply.

Is it worth paying more?

For one or two people, the $114 small-group tour is enough. A private guide costs a couple $51 more each, which is worth it mainly if you want to set the pace or have children or older relatives with you. For four people the private tour costs only $4 more each, and we’d book it. Beyond that, the dearer tours have too few reviews to show what the extra money gets you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Toyosu tuna auction tour cost?

Small-group auction tours cost from about $112 to $128 per person. A private guide costs $331 for one person on the most-reviewed private tour, $165 each for two and $118 each for four. Breakfast and the taxi to the 5:00 a.m. start are usually extra.

Is breakfast included on Toyosu tuna auction tours?

Usually not. The most-reviewed small-group tour leaves breakfast to you unless you book its option with a meal and hotel pickup, at $172 per person. The Sushi Dai or Bentomi tour reserves the seat but not the food. One newer tour includes a set seafood breakfast, but it has only a handful of reviews so far.

Are private Toyosu tours cheaper for groups?

Yes. Private tours are priced for the group, so the price per person falls as you add people. On the most-reviewed private tour, four people pay $118 each, close to the price of a small-group tour.

Can I watch the Toyosu tuna auction for free?

Yes. The upper visitor deck is free and needs no booking, and you can apply for the close-up deck lottery yourself. A tour adds a guide who explains what you’re watching, help with the early start and a plan for breakfast.

Does a more expensive tour get a better view of the auction?

No. Tours watch from the public deck unless you win the official lottery. Some operators offer lottery help if you book by the 5th of the month before, but the official FAQ says you submit the entry yourself, and the draw is random.
